Friend For Life’s (FFL) Advocacy Academy facilitates the mobilization of a grassroots campaign that advocates for the rights of people living with HIV, as well as funding for their needs. It does so through teaching empowerment, leadership, and advocacy skills, and by working with advocacy groups and community leaders to educate public and government officials. For the 2015-2016 grant year, FFL expanded its efforts through collaborative partnerships with organizations dedicated to racial and social justice issues. The upcoming cohort of participants are now prepared to provide the community with information on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), voter registrations campaigns, and HIV criminalization laws.
- Provide training to advocates in facilitation, board membership, and relevant social issues
- Conduct education campaigns to better inform the community on ACA enrollment
- Continue work as part of statewide coalition on HIV criminalization laws to promote changes in policy
- Educate local and state elected officials on HIV from, treatment and care, to issues of social justice impacting people living with HIV in their home state of Florida
